We live in a time of great change. And it seems that there are two possibilities for the future:
either ignorance, greed and intolerance will bring us to a near or total collapse,
or we’ll somehow bring about a better world.
So focussing on that second option, how can we make that happen?
What can we do, as individuals and as a group, that goes beyond discussion?

At Beams and Struts we’ve developed various practices to guide us in bringing forth our ideas, sharing them and interacting with those who care to engage with us.

At our evening at the Integral Cafe, we’d like to present and enact a microcosm of that process with all attendees to mine the collective intelligence of those present. Let’s come up with options and practical solutions for the future. Let’s share them and commit to realizing them in the world.

BeamsandStruts.com is an ideas blog - a magazine for hungry brains and thirsty souls - cofounded by friends who (mostly) live in Vancouver. Frequent topics include spirituality, world affairs, arts, gender politics, technology, food and sports. We see the articles we post as the beginnings of discussions.

All are welcome to participate.

Birthing a New We - An Evening with Thomas Hübl

April 4, 2012 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Thomas Hübl

To lead an awake, integral existence in the midst of daily life is one of the greatest challenges. How do we express the timeless wisdom and our insights of an alive, awake life in all our relationships, in our sexuality, with our children and our colleagues at work? How does awakeness turn into our daily practice and thus into our reality?

We are all familiar with moments when we really say "Yes", when life suddenly begins to flow and we are pure vibrancy. In a presence that is lived we can engage more deeply in the moment, its dynamics and our interaction with the world.

What tools can we be used to tap into a "new We" and what might organizational and community forms look like? What do presence, transparency, compassion, integral spirituality mean on the next level to come? How do we live and work if we radically make Awakening the core? And what does it mean for our communities and the collective?

This special evening includes a selection of tools of Thomas’ work: Meditation, communication, the reading and understanding of fields of consciousness, toning, exercises in presence, training in intuition and inspiration. These are helpful on an awakening path in order to access levels of consciousness, gain insight into the functioning of collective fields, to guide others in their processes and to see from different points of view.

Currently a "new We" emerges more and more on the evolutionary surface of life. We start to experience a new awakening that takes us beyond usual forms of individual experience: field thinking, transparent communication, recognizing experiential spaces inside people, naturally extended perception abilities, elevated levels of synchronization and transcendence - these are just a few signs of a new era.

As a foundation, Thomas Hübl will present four pillars that are crucial to his work: The integration of unintegrated parts, the connection to the future potential of life, transcendence into timeless ever-present consciousness and being active in the market place of daily life.

Then, Thomas - working extensively with both collective emergence and collective shadow work - will reveal how radical presence allows us to see what we don't see. He reveals us a committed "Yes" to every moment to experience it in its fullness and the courage to make a creative contribution to life and work towards an awakened society.

Integral Cafe: Integrating Ecological Awareness into Daily Life

March 13, 2012 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Integrating Ecological Awareness into Daily Life:
An exploration of Integral Ecology

In this world of both turmoil and beauty, many wonder about how to skillfully bring their deepest longings and ideals for the planet to fruition. When so much seems against what feels right and true, how do we step up and bring our hearts and minds to the task? Faced with evolutionary consequences of large-scale environmental change, one might experience hopelessness, despair, numbness, anxiety, fear, rage, grief…and isolation. Yet, there are ways to explore our relationship with the earth that can help us shift our awareness to greater realities and possibilities. If our problems can only be solved by moving to a new level of awareness, how do we get there?

Integral Ecology offers a pathway, by integrating both the self that encounters the world and the world as encountered by the self. By exploring our own patterns of development in relation to issues we deeply care about, we can see more clearly our past to present trajectories and then possible leaping off points for greater impact and embrace. By also presencing multiple perspectives on the world around us, including the interiors and relationalities of animals, we can increase our sense of intimacy and connectedness with the world around us. In more fully knowing ourselves and the world around us, we can experience greater levels of nourishment by life as well as enacting our unique contributions.

Join us for an evening that will be experiential, conceptual and conversational in it’s exploration of the growing field of integral ecology.

SHARING THE PRESENCE AND A "NEW WE"
Evolutionary Ways of Creating Community, Society, Spirituality

Sharing the Presence is a practice which cultivates a permanently unfolding field that encourages, stimulates and supports presence, awareness and compassion in the world and cultivates an encompassing understanding of human consciousness and potential.

Currently a "New We" is emerging on the evolutionary surface of life. We start to experience a new awakening that takes us beyond usual forms of individual experience.

This special evening includes a selection of tools of Thomas’ work: Meditation, communication, the reading and understanding of fields of consciousness, toning, exercises in presence, training in intuition and inspiration.

Integral  Community Seminar ~ Evolving the We!

August 9-14, 2011

Whidbey Institute, Whidbey Island, WA

The Integral Community seminar is being organized by our dear friends and colleagues at Next Step Integral, an organization with a great track record of putting on transformative events that are truly about “walking the talk”. Expert guidance, strong community support, as well as delivery of hands-on tools and skills make up this unique opportunity.

Are you seeking to co-create integral community from the ground up?
Or are you eager to find out how to awaken an existing community
you live or work within to greater consciousness?

We are alive at a unique time in our human history – a time that calls us to come together like never before, and that asks of us a deeper and broader understanding of the complex dynamics and potential of human relationships. We are alive at a time when creating meaningful, genuine community is not just a personal desire or option, but essential for our shared humanity to continue to evolve and flourish.

Come join integral community experts Terry Patten, Stephan Martineau, John Gruber, Terri O’Fallon, and many more to deepen and enact integral evolutionary community in the beautiful old-growth forest of the Pacific North-West! This is certain to be a dynamic and profoundly transformative week!

3 Faces of Spirit - Meditation & Prayer

March 21, 2011 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Who or What or Where is God These Days?

We live in a time when our concepts are God, Spirit, the Holy One or Oneness, are being put into question on a large scale. More and more people call themselves "spiritual but not religious." But what does this really mean? Are we just missing out on the breadth and depth of God because we choose to reject old ideas which no longer square up with our modern and post-modern cultures? Have we thrown out certain aspects of the divine, and found ourselves parched by the dryness of "Principle" or "Absolute" that we now call God? In our quest to embody the "I Am Presence" within, have we lost out on the comfort and personal transformation that can occur while experiencing deep reverence of the Beloved Other?

This and other questions have crossed my mind in exploring Integral Spirituality in the past decade. I'd love to explore them further, with you, on Monday, March 21, 2011 and beyond. I hope you will join me for the Integral Cafe next week so that we might come together in spiritual reflection and practice with the 3 Faces of Spirit.
